Cacao Deuces: Clean Cookies

Cacao Deuces

With Halloween in the rear view and my house filled with candy everywhere I turn, I baked up a batch of these clean cookies to keep my sugar dragon at bay. These high protein treats are healthy, delicious, and ready in a matter of minutes.

Why cacao deuces…

Cacao Deuces

Cacao Deuces

Well, firstly cacao is a potent antioxidant with numerous health benefits; cacao boosts immunity, protects the nervous system, reduces risk for stroke, reduces risk of cardiovascular disease, boosts mood, and is rich in minerals- just to name a few.

All of those health studies that report the benefits of chocolate are referring to raw cacao. You could certainly use cocoa powder in this recipe but the nutritional value decreases dramatically since much of the enzyme content is decreased by the roasting process.

And secondly, deuces…these little chocolatey nuggets resemble… well, we’ll leave it there. 🙂

A salt finish…

This is an important component to bringing out the flavor of the cacao. I have experimented with sea salt, pink Himalayan salt, and maldon sea salt flakes (a finishing salt). The maldon sea salt was my favorite, by far. The perfect burst of salt and slight crunch was the missing link to these “cookies”.

Hope you enjoy these easy and quick clean cookies as much as I do!
